talking about the ambassadors: "What is signifigant for our argument is that the skull is painted in a (literally) quite different optic from everything else in the picture, if the skull had been painted like the rest, its metaphysical implication would have dissappeared; it would have become an object like everything else, a mere part of a skeleton of a man who happened to be dead" i like this idea of of sort of exploring the same scene or image with different colors and contrast. it really symbolizes (at least in this picture) the different sides of a human being and all the different personalities one person can have. and i also like the obscurity of the bottom left portrait, and how it relates to the quote, how certain details are only visible when under a certain light.
